SYMPTOMS IN MOTHER
- Generally asymptomatic
- Persists in the human host as latent infection in several glands.
EFFECTS ON FOETUS
- Congenital abnormalities including mental retardation, deafness and microcephaly.
- Haemolytic anaemia.
- Subclinical infections in adults such as: hepatitis, pneumonia and cytomegalovirus.
- Infectious mononucleosis.
