It suffice to say that of all hip fractures
in women above the age of 50 almost 90-95% are due to porous bones.

Is the incidence riding in India? |
Yes. The incidence of fractured neck of
femur has increased considerably during the past 30 years.

Why
is this so? |
The reason is uncertain. It has been
proposed that an increasingly sedentary lifestyle may be important.

Why should we be so concerned about hip fractures? |
The cost of hip fracture is substantial in
terms of both morbidity and mortality. Morbidity is great in terms of misery, disability
and dependence with three out of every five women sustaining hip fracture being unable to
return to an independent life. Mortality is also high with 20% of women who sustain hip
fracture dying within one year.

Are
all women ar risk of osteoporosis? |
If all women were to live enough then
answer would be yes. However, with the current female life expectancy the answer must be
no. |
