MEETING YOUR
ANAESTHESIOLOGIST BEFORE THE SURGERY
You will be required to meet your
anaesthetist before the surgery. You must take along all your previous medical records in addition to those pertaining to the problem at hand.
Make sure you discuss the following:
- Recent history of illness such as colds, fever, flu, cough etc.
- Chronic medical conditions like Asthma, Blood Pressure, Bronchitis, Diabetes, Fits,
Heart Disease etc. and the medicines being taken for the same.
- Any drug and food allergies that you may be aware of.
- Past experiences with anaesthesia.
- Blood transfusions that you may have been administered and any side effects encountered.
- Loose, broken, capped teeth and dentures.
- Use of contact lenses.
- Use of alcohol and tobacco
Your Anaesthesiologist will choose the
proper type of anaesthetic depending on your medical condition and the surgery involved.
He has to know all the details as it is his duty to:
- Keep you comfortable and free of pain during and after the surgery. He along with his team will carefully monitor all the
vital functions like the pulse, blood pressure, heart rate and breathing.
- To give medications to help you relax and sleep the night before.
