Anxiety Disorders and Dissociative Disorders

DISSOCIATIVE DISORDER (Hysteria)

Patient tries to dissociate herself from the crisis and thus seek temporary a solution. May present as Fugue (the sudden, unexpected travel away from one’s home with inability to recall one’s past), amnesia, dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality disorder), and depersonalization are all dissociative states. It is precipitated by emotional crisis. The symptom produces anxiety reduction and a temporary solution of the crisis.
