Ultrasound in Women

ULTRASOUND OF THE BREAST

Ultrasound of the breast is usually done along with Mammography to see whether the lesion seen on Mammography is detectable on ultrasound and if so whether it is cystic or a solid lesion.

Young patients with lumpy breasts can be screened for fibro-cystic changes.

Young patient with lump suspected to be a fibroadenoma can be diagnosed by ultrasound.

Ultrasound can be helpful for biopsies/fixing of wire in a lesion prior to surgery.

ULTRASOUND OF THE THYROID

  • Swelling in the neck found clinically can be evaluated on ultrasound especially for thyroid lesions.
  • The lesion can be detected on sonography and diagnosed whether it is solid or cystic lesion.
  • Biopsy of the lesion can be undertaken under ultrasound guidance.
  • Moreover lymph nodes in the neck can be picked up by ultrasound.
