One occurring in a fallopian tube rather than in its normal location in the uterus.

How often does a tubal pregnancy occur?
About one in every 300 to 400 pregnancies.

How long can a tubal pregnancy grow before causing symptoms?
From 3 - 6 weeks.

Does a tubal pregnancy ever last nine months and result in the normal birth of a child?
Never.

Must tubal pregnancies always be operated upon?
Yes, always.

What are the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy?
They vary considerably but usually consist of irregularity of the menstrual flow with slight vaginal spotting, lower abdomen pain, and other signs of early pregnancy. If the tube ruptures, bleeding occurs and is followed by faintness and shock.

Is operation for an ectopic pregnancy an emergency procedure?
Yes.
