MYTH NO. 6: "SHOCK TREATMENT PRODUCES BRAIN DAMAGE".

Fact: Shock treatment (Electro-Convulsive Therapy – ECT) is a safe and scientific treatment. Recent scientific studies (MRI Scan, CT Scan, other tests) have proved beyond doubt that ECT does not produce any brain damage.

In fact, the recovery with ECT is a much earlier than with any other form of therapy. In a few cases, temporarily there may be some memory disturbance by the memory recovers and there is no permanent memory disturbance. As patient improves in depressive mood, interest improves and patient is able to remember better.
