SIXTH WEEK

By the end of the sixth week, the foetus measures about 6 mm. Changes in the growing foetus include development of:

  • Chest and abdominal cavities.
  • A simple from of brain, spinal cord and the spine.
  • Tiny limb buds at corners of the body
  • A simple form of heart, which begins to beat and these heartbeats can be detected through ultrasound.
  • Initial parts of the stomach and intestine.
  • Tiny depressions where the eyes and ears will develop and beginning of the mouth and jaw.
