Freckles

WHAT ARE FRECKLES?

Freckles are tan spots usually less than 5-6mm in diameter of irregular shape that appear on the sun exposed skin, notably the nose, cheeks, hands and upper trunk of fair complexioned individuals, who have genetic susceptibility.

ARE THEY SEEN ON (PRESENT) ON COVERED AREAS OF THE SKIN?

Freckles are seen on the light exposed skin like face, shoulder and back. They never affect unexposed areas and mucous membranes. A sharp line of demarcation is usually observed between freckles and unaffected skin

HOW ARE THEY TREATED?

Freckles are benign and treatment is mainly on cosmetic grounds. But even after treatment they (may) tend to reoccur.

  • Photo-protection- sun screen and sun filters
  • Cosmetic camouflage
  • Medical- hydroquinone tropically
  • Surgical
  • Chemical peels(glycolic acid or TCA or Phenol); LASER WYAG
